Purpose
This is a personal creative image made of the Book Cliffs near my home in Mesa County, Colorado. The Book Cliffs are a part of the Roan Plateau that covers a wide area in eastern Utah and western Colorado. The Book Cliffs rise above the Grand Valley are a dominant land form that is easily viewed from the I-70 corridor and Grand Junction. The Book Cliffs are one of my favorite local subjects and their appearance is often dramatic due to storms, early morning sunlight, and late afternoon sunsets. The Roan Plateau is rich in sea fossils and organic Marlstone which contains a precursor to oil known as kerogen. The abundant kerogen in the Roan Plateau was the basis for oil shale development in the 1970's.
