BCA News: Fall 2017
A message from your Vice President
Happy Autumn to all!
It is an honor to continue my work with the BCA and serve on the Executive Board as your Vice President for 2017-2018. I look forward to working with, Susanne Loomis, President, Jim Koepfler, Secretary Treasure, the Directors, and BCA members. Let’s continue to move forward with initiatives for our association.
People drive the association and BCA needs you more than ever. Our 88th annual meeting will be June 19-22, 2018 in Savannah, Georgia. The meeting doesn’t happen without our member’s participation. Please consider presenting a plenary talk, workshop or a poster. Connie Johansen, Director of Conferences, is more than happy to discuss your ideas with you.
Your BCA is committed to sharing educational resources to its members and the community. We count on our members to help provide these resources. We have a YouTube Channel, so why not create a 5-10 minute how-to video? We have BCA Talk, where you can post a question and have your colleagues answer from all over the world. We have the Total Body Photography Certification. Peter Grattan, Chair of Certification, is working diligently on enhancing the certification process. We have the EFFE committee working on our many grants that are available to you for special projects and studies, financial assistance to present at BIOCOMM, and scholarships to support education. Danielle Edwards, Chair of EFFE, is leading that effort.
The BCA website has a link to our Learn From the Experts page. Why not write a piece for that? We also have the Tips and Techniques page. When you come across something that helps you do your job, why not share that with the group through this section? Webinars are included in your membership and some fantastic learning opportunities are coming up soon. Looking for a job? Take a look at the jobs posting page, you may find your dream job. We also have a page of informative links on our website to help you find information that you need. Finally, The Journal of BioCommunication (JBC) is waiting for your papers. James Wetzel, BCA Editor for JBC, can assist you with your article.
As you can see, your BCA leadership is continually working to improve our association by providing information for our members in multiple ways, through the website, YouTube and our annual meeting.
It doesn’t happen without you though. So, please take a moment, think about one or two items that you can do this year. Put some ideas on paper and send them in for a presentation to our annual meeting. We can help you develop your ideas and writing.
Now is the time to plan for 2018 and get involved. Call any of our leaders who can help you decide where you can best be involved in our association.
I look forward to working with all of you in 2018 to move BCA ahead and continue in the great work we all do.
Adam Cooper, RBP, FBCA
