BCA News: Fall 2017
Get ready for BIOCOMM 2018
We are proud to announce Mark Maio as the Anne Shiras Pioneer Lecturer for BIOCOMM 2018. Many BCA members and friends know Mark from previous BIOCOMM meetings or as a RIT professor and fine art workshop instructor. With a background in ophthalmic and medical photography, as well as fine art, Mark divides his time between personal fine art work and as an imaging consultant in the field of ophthalmology. His highly-acclaimed work includes a 12-print portfolio that is included in the permanent collection of the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography. Mark Maio was recently appointed to lead the Corporate Ambassador and Philanthropic Division for KEH Camera. He will lead the effort to deepen KEH’s commitment to supporting the photographic community of both new and established photographers. BCA is honored to have Mark as our Pioneer Lecturer and I know that our members and friends will enjoy his lecture. You can learn more about Mark at his website www.markmaio.com
Known to locals as the “Grand Lady on the Bay”, the Hotel Indigo Savannah is in the heart of the historic district just walking distance from many attractions. Set in Ellis Square, you can visit City Market right next door, or walk to famous River Street where you can watch ships in the harbor and savor Southern comfort food in local restaurants. Five of Savannah’s iconic squares are within roughly five blocks of the Indigo. You will find that Savannah has a rich history and a vibrant art community, including the Savannah College of Art and Design. You can tour a pre-Civil War era mansion or go on a haunted ghost tour in America’s Most Haunted City. Bars, restaurants, shops and historic squares are right outside the hotel. The Indigo recently had a complete makeover and you will enjoy the plush rugs, luxurious beds and well-appointed rooms. The Five Oaks Taproom is in the hotel with local brews and farm-to-table experiences with modern flair.
We are still working on securing a dynamic Maria Ikenberg-Lindberg Keynote speaker, with many names in the hat. We are also working on organizing a photo walk on Saturday, June 23 so keep that in mind when making your plans.
