BCA Awards Best of Show and 7 Awards of Excellence in 2014 BioImages Competition

Beauveria bassiana © Nicole OttawaNicole Ottawa, from eye of science in Reutlingen, Germany, was awarded Best of Show for her photo, "Beauveria bassiana," in the BioCommunications Association's 2014 BioImages competition, which showcases the finest photography, graphic design, and videography in the life sciences and medicine.

Best of Show is awarded for the most outstanding entry from the Award of Excellence winners. Ottawa's "Beauveria bassiana" photo also received the Charles Foster Memorial Citation and the Award of Excellence in the Still Media: Photomicrograph category. The Award of Excellence is awarded to entries that achieve the highest standards of professionalism.

Other Award of Excellence Winners

  • Norm Barker, MA, MS, RBP, FBCA, from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, received an Award of Excellence in the Still Media: General Illustrative category for his photo, "Inside the Dome, John Hopkins Hospital".
  • Carolyn Bedggood and Alvin Aquino from The Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, received an Award of Excellence in the Graphics Media: Periodical category for their "The Royal Children's Hospital Education Institute Annual Report".
  • Lydia Gregg, MA, CMI, FAMI, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, received an Award of Excellence in the Still Media: Medical Illustrative category for her photo, "Future Biomarkers for Moyamoya Disease".
  • Taina Litwak, CMI, and Dr. Steven Lingafelter, from the US Department of Agriculture, received an Award of Excellence in the Still Media: Natural Science Illustration category for their illustration, "3 new species of Cerambycid beetle".
  • Gigi Williams, FBCA, The Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne, received an Award of Excellence in the Still Media: Fine Art category for her photo, "Joshua Tree".

Winners were announced at the BioImages Honors Reception and Awards Banquet July 25, 2014 in Rochester, Minnesota held in conjunction with BCA's 2014 Annual Meeting, "Share the Knowledge".
