BIOCOMM 2006 - Knoxville, TN

Meeting Highlights

BIOCOMM 2006, the 76th annual meeting of the BioCommunications Association, was held in Knoxville, TN, July 11-15, 2006. The meeting hosted many industry and biocommunications professionals presenting on topics ranging from portraiture, publishing, patient photography, animation, software, forensic photography; and, of course, there was lots of great Southern hospitality!

Nature photographer and author Jim Clark got the meeting off to a great start with “A Journey of Rediscovery." Dennis Biela conducted a special QuickTime VR workshop and captured a QTVR group photo. Lynn Grillo from Adobe discussed the future of communications and gave software workshops. The attendees just would not let Dennis Dejan of Sappi go—we kept him for an extra hour and people still wanted more.

The scientific program concluded with a thought-provoking retrospective and forward-looking talk by Professor Robin Williams of RMIT, Melbourne, Australia who presented the Anne Shiras Pioneer Members lecture entitled "Back to the Future – Again."

Complementing all the great content were numerous opportunities to break out into small groups, network during breaks, and enjoy the company of fellow biocommunicators during open evenings and the Riverboat dinner cruise. A special field trip to explore the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with professional nature photographer and author Bill Campbell was a great wrap up for the meeting.

The success of this meeting was do in part to the wonderful support of our sponsors: Nikon, Adobe, Kaidan, Pfizer, Vesalius Trust, Canon, Sappi, Zeiss, and Hasselblad.
